Emotions and Your Colon

The colon is extremely sensitive and is influenced greatly by every emotion, both positive and negative: Fear   Excitment   Anxiety   Anger   Grief   Happiness   Stress   Nervousness All of which can have either a soothing or irritating effect. Every emotion medicated via the nervous system has an effect upon the blood supply and the muscles of the colon. Our state of mind and thoughts can both trigger and halt peristaltic action. Our abdominal area is considered to be our home, heart, and family. Especially, in women, an upset mental state can have a profound effect upon our digestive process. Emotions can also interfere with the enzymatic function. We need to relax and slow down, and allow our Para - Sympathetic system to work (Digestion). The colon/large intestine is known as the 2nd Brain (essentially has its own nervous system control). The art of lively conversation during mealtimes can interfere with the digestive process. It is better to not eat all if you are in an upset state.
